Chris Bowness, Production Manager at Shortridge shares his typical day at our Lillyhall facility.
14 years ago I started in the Shortridge washroom and I’ve had various roles since, including on the factory floor, the packing department and then as a supervisor in the washroom. This experience has given me insight into the journey of a customer order and has helped me evolve processes to make the team more efficient.
What I enjoy most about working at Shortridge is the fact that as Production Manager no two days are the same. There are always new challenges to help me grow. It’s such a great place to work and I’ve met a lot of friends for life. We work hard with a smile on our faces.

The journey of a pillowcase takes 1 hour from start to finish. The item is sorted, checked, washed, dryed, checked, checked again, tagged and is then ready for delivery.
After a strong cup of coffee, my morning begins with our daily team briefings. Everyone is involved and we discuss daily priorities based on customer orders. We also assess our performance from the day before. We’re always looking for areas where we can make improvements.
Safety at work is paramount at Shortridge so I’m regularly hosting risk assessment and safety training for the team. The aim is to empower staff so that everyone understands the important role they play in our process. Ongoing staff training ensures that members of the team can confidently move into another department to help meet demand.
