Shortridge has been serving the people of Scotland and North England since 1845. More than 170 years later, we have still not forgotten where we came from and we want to keep it that way.
Thomas Shortridge founded the business and wanted to serve the local households in Dumfries. Originally a cleaner and dyers, Thomas quickly discovered the nearby loch was ideal for dying – and a direct supply was arranged. For the next 100 years, the business remained in the family, growing day by day.
With thanks to a helpful employee in the 1940s, our business still has newspaper clippings of our adverts and marketing campaigns. Some of which featured Anne Crawford, Sheila Sim, Richard Attenborough, Ann Ziegler, and Jean Simmons!
As the years progressed, we merged with Cumbria based North West Laundry in the early 2000s and started serving people from Scotland, the North-West and the North-East of England.
From day 1 our mission has been to help our customers and to go above and beyond. Today, our mission has remained unchanged.
That’s why Shortridge will always be here to help local and independent businesses. We want to keep our locality and friendly approach to laundry services, as our customers have always been the focus of our business.
